We left El Paso early and were in Las Cruces, New Mexico by 8:30, hoping to go to the farmers market which is held every Wednesday and Saturday. We were a bit disappointed as only four vendors were there. Maybe more would show up later, but instead we found Rosies Cafe. We had a wonderful breakfast. They had an outside patio so Harper could be at our table, she likes that.
From Las Cruces we headed eastward to White Sands National Park, a place that has been on our list for a while. White Sands did not disappoint, it was beautiful, and white, but with a bit more vegetation than we expected. We hiked a couple of hikes. There were warnings everywhere about getting lost and having enough water...we made it through without incident.
However the incidents with the Doodle continue. Engine lights and DEF warning lights..yuk. We went to Alamogordo and found the worlds largest Pistachio at a pistachio farm. They also sold ice cream (Harper loves vanilla) and lots of souvenirs - including lots of things with aliens on them..we are heading in the general direction Roswell.
Our destination was a Harvest Host winery where we had a tasting and bought a bottle or Rose, nice. We discussed what we should do about the Doodle's engine issue and made the decision that we needed to have it addressed professionally. We made an appointment at the Mercedes-Benz of Albuquerque. The soonest they can accommodate us is next Tuesday, a week away. We this throws us a huge scheduling change. The problem is, with this sort of issue on a Mercedes diesel is that the ignition can suddenly lock out, which would then require a tow. We are a big vehicle and currently three hours away from Albuquerque. We are going to risk it and continue on to Roswell... this story will be continued.
In the meantime below is a gallery from the day
