When we woke up, the rain had stopped and the sun was trying to peek through. We made a good breakfast, and did all the morning chores and were underway early but headed back south to Crescent City, that is where the nearest Walmart was. We realized that the last time we stopped for groceries and stuff there was a few things we had forgotten and Walmart was the likely solution.
Harper and I explored the parking lot while Carol dashed into the store and we were back on the road in good time. Along the coastal route we went, ever northward and in and out of fog for a while. Within a few minutes we crossed from California to Oregon, we love California but we were glad to see it fall away behind us.
Now the Oregon coast is really something to behold, holy smokes is it beautiful. We stopped frequently to peer over at the sea from some high vantage point and the rocky coast was always satisfying. The beaches were fantastic, strewn with logs that had made their way to the sea. At one stop where we walked to the water we had to climb over a ridge of logs, at another they were just lying in the sand at the water’s edge
We found a place along the water to hike where Harper could run free. She loved hunting for things along the edge of the waves, back and forth she went. Harper loves to find the small crabs and run off with them and then back for more.
She would pick up seaweed and toss it into the air and run at full speed along the wet sand as the waves receded. It is fun to be at the beach with Harper. We hiked back up to the Doodle from the beach and had a good lunch before moving on to the next scenic overlook. We stopped and drove, stopped and drove for several hours.
It was late afternoon when we arrived at Tillicum State Park. It was a self checkin, and I guess we did it right as I never heard from anyone. We backed into our site, set up and hiked to the beach. The beach here was as wide and flat as they come. In front of was the Pacific with small cliffs behind us, it was beautiful and Harper got her fill of running and chasing things.
There were other dogs running the beach but they were all quite far away. This was a totally different experience for Harper than Dog Beach in San Diego. We had a great supper and a couple of games of Cribbage before turning in. Harper slept very well, she was a very tired doggie.
